Jönköping International Business School (JIBS) invites applications for two fully funded, full-time doctoral student positions (PhD) in Economics, starting on 1 September 2026.

The positions include advanced coursework, independent research, and departmental duties, including teaching, and are based at the Department of Economics, Finance, and Statistics at JIBS.

Located in central Jönköping along Lake Vättern, JIBS offers a high-quality work environment combined with a lively urban atmosphere. Academic and Research Environment

Our key research centres – the Centre for Entrepreneurship and Spatial Economics (CEnSE), the Centre for Family Enterprise and Ownership (CeFEO), and the Media, Management and Transformation Centre (MMTC) – provide PhD students with opportunities for specialized research affiliation. At the Department of Economics, Finance, and Statistics, research is conducted in diverse areas, including urban and regional economics, applied microeconomics, macroeconomics, public policy, and finance.

Position details and work tasks

- Full-time positions (100%), fully funded (including salary), for up to 5 years, conditional on satisfactory progress assessed annually.
- The positions comprise 80% doctoral studies, including coursework (mandatory and elective) and independent research leading to a PhD in Economics, and 20% teaching and administrative duties.

Requirements

To qualify for admission to the PhD programme, applicants must have:

- A Master’s degree (or equivalent);
- Completed at least 240 ECTS credits, including at least 60 ECTS credits at the Master's level;
- At least 90 ECTS credits in Economics;
- At least 15 ECTS credits in Statistics.

As the language of research and teaching at JIBS is English, applicants must be fluent in both written and spoken English.

You will also get many opportunities for enhancing your teaching skills and for personal development. We offer fully financed positions to our doctoral students who receive competitive salaries for their work as employees of JIBS. - New technologies, media, and its effects on society, industries, and customer interactions. This includes legacy media, platform industries and other stakeholders involved in generation, distribution and consumption of information.
- Entrepreneurship, strategy and organizing for enhanced sustainability, including diversity and inclusion.
- Entrepreneurship, strategy, and organizing in new industries (virtual reality, platforms and artificial intelligence).

Centre for Family Entrepreneurship and Ownership (CeFEO)

- Family ownership and family business, heterogeneity in family ownership and family business. Family business governance, strategy, and organization.
- Meanings and implications of ownership; ownership and organizational goals. Strategy, governance, and accounting across different ownership forms.
- Entrepreneurial life cycle, goals, cognition, emotions, and behaviors of entrepreneurial actors, in relation to family and ownership.

Qualifications
Admission to our doctoral program requires:

- Been (or soon to be) awarded a degree at second-cycle level (Master).
- Achieved at least the equivalent of 240 ECTS credits, of which a minimum of 60 ECTS credits must have been achieved at the second-cycle level.
- Achieved at least 90 ECTS credits in Business Administration.

The main language of research and teaching at JIBS is English. You must be fluent in both written and spoken English to be eligible for our doctoral program.

The position

We offer a full-time and permanent position as Assistant Professor in Business Administration with specialization in accounting (including management accounting) and/or finance. The position comprises education activities, research, societal engagement and service to JIBS. Teaching is primarily campus-based, performed in English, and distributed over the academic year.

Qualifications

The Economics Faculty at Jönköping International Business School (JIBS) is a highly committed research department with graduate and undergraduate programs.

The Economics Faculty hosts several strong research groups, including public/labor economics, regional economics, and entrepreneurship.

We are seeking a candidate for a Post Doctoral position in Economics. It is a 2-year Postdoc within a research project investigating the effects of digital tools in retirement planning.  Utilizing administrative data from the Swedish pension dashboard, minPension, and Statistics Sweden, the project seeks to identify socio-economic disparities in the utilization of Pension Tracking Systems (PTS) and evaluate the influence of PTSs on retirement choices. This project has garnered financial support from the Hamrin Foundation.

 

As a Postdoc your focus will be on conducting high-quality research and actively contributing to these research objectives and aims, as well as organizing project-related workshops and conferences. Teaching is provided in Economics at either bachelor's or master's level to a maximum of 20 per cent. The department allocates teaching assignments based on the candidate's preferences.

Job description

As a Post Doc you will be dealing with relevant research projects investigate different forms of ownership, the meaning of ownership, property rights, and ownership competencies. The governance area explores the interaction between ownership and corporate governance systems and bodies in different organizations, such as foundations or family businesses, with a disciplinary grounding in strategy, and/or organization and management studies. Relevant projects within entrepreneurship could be related to ownership aspects within the entrepreneurial process. Research projects focused on owners as entrepreneurial actors, that is, enterprising and entrepreneurial families, are also very relevant. Research projects can also combine governance and entrepreneurship lenses and, ideally, forge the link to pressing challenges that business owners face in the contemporary global setting.

The successful candidate for this Post Doc position will work closely with the CeFEO Director Massimo Baù and is expected that the research conducted within the frame of this position will lead to publications in top ranked scientific journals. An ability and interest to share research findings with stakeholders outside academia is also expected.

Most of your time will be devoted to research while benefitting from and contributing in person to JIBS’ vibrant research environment. The remaining time is allocated for teaching and service to CeFEO. It is an excellent opportunity to kick-start or boost a successful research career in an active and collegial research environment.

We seek a Post Doc researcher who would like to pursue high-quality research on family businesses at Centre for Family Entrepreneurship and Ownership (CeFEO). We are particularly interested in candidates with a genuine interest in advancing ownership research and currently conduct research on topics related to governance, entrepreneurship, or family business. Qualifications

To be eligible for a position as an Assistant Professor at JIBS, you must have been awarded a doctorate degree in business administration or a closely related field and have prior teaching experience in higher education equivalent to one year of fulltime teaching. To qualify for Associate Professor, you must fulfil JIBS criteria for Associate Professor, which, in summary, include: the equivalent of at least two years of full-time teaching, pedagogical training, experience of PhD supervision, a strong record of internal and external citizenship, ability for independent research development, and publication of at least five articles, beyond the dissertation, ranked at Academic Journal Guide (AJG) level 2, 3, 4, or 4* of which maximum two can be on AJG2-level. All Assistant Professors at JIBS are entitled to apply for promotion to Associate Professor once fulfilling each criterion.

It is meritorious if you have a track record of highly ranked journal publications (AJG3 or above) or articles in the process of being published in such journals. Qualifications

To be eligible for the position, you have a Master’s degree or have achieved at least 240 credits/ECTS, of which a minimum of 60 credits/ECTS must have been achieved at the second cycle level, or otherwise acquired equivalent knowledge in Sweden or abroad.

Information

We offer a fully financed full-time position which is limited in accordance with the applicable collective agreement for doctoral students. The start date of the employment is 2023-09-01 or according to an agreement.

Employment as a doctoral student normally covers five years, of which four years (80%) consist of full-time studies. The employment is extended annually based on the individual study plan. The salary is regulated according to a special doctoral student ladder.

We are looking for candidates with experience of both teaching and research in different areas of commercial law including for example marketing law, intellectual property law, IT law, company law, credit security law and/or tax law. The law unit at JIBS cater for teaching in business law across the university and you should therefore be able to teach in several areas of commercial law at least at a basic level.

Qualifications
The admission to our doctoral program requires:

- Been (or soon to be) awarded a degree at second-cycle level (Master).
- Achieved at least the equivalent of 240 ECTS credits, of which a minimum of 60 ECTS credits must have been achieved at the second-cycle level.
- Achieved at least 90 ECTS credits in Business Administration.

The main language of research and teaching at JIBS is English. You must be fluent in both written and spoken English to be eligible for our doctoral program.

We seek a postdoctoral researcher who would like to pursue high-quality research on family business at Centre for Family Entrepreneurship and Ownership (CeFEO). We are particulary interested in candidates with a genuine interest in family business and currently conducting research on topics related to governance and/or entrepreneurship, proved by a solid pipeline of high-quality papers. Moreover, the ideal candidate has a clear interest to initiate new research project in these areas.

Relevant research projects within governance could be related to corporate governance, board of directors and ownership in family business with a disciplinary foundation in strategy and/or management. Relevant projects within entrepreneurship could be related to entrepreneurship as new firm formation and start-ups in the context of families, or as entrepreneurship, innovation, and strategic renewal within established family businesses. Research projects focused on the family group as an entrepreneurial actor, that is, enterprising and entrepreneurial families, are also very relevant. Research projects could also combine governance and entrepreneurship lenses and, ideally, forge the link to pressing contemporary challenges that face family businesses today.

The successful candidate for this postdoc position will work closely with Professor Mattias Nordqvist and it is expected that the research conducted within the frame of this position leads to publication in top ranked scientific journals. An ability and genuine interest to share research findings with stakeholders outside academia is also expected.

 

YOUR PROFILE

You should hold a PhD degree in business administration from a reputable university, completed no more than three years before the application period has expired. You should be able to demonstrate your ability to perform high-quality research, and display experience in family business research. We expect that you have published articles in highly ranked journal (AJG3 or above) or have articles in the process of being published in such journals. We expect that you are fluent in English and are looking for applicants with a collegial attitude and a willingness to contribute to the organization.

JIBS is now recruiting an Assistant Professor in Business Administration with a special interest in Organization and Human Resource Management with a proven experience of teaching and research in that area. WORKING TASKS

The position comprise education activities distributed over the academic year, including teaching and course development at bachelor and master level, research, and service to JIBS.

Besides teaching, all assistant professors at JIBS are expected to do rigorous and relevant research, apply for externally funded research grants, as well as be engaged with business and society at large, to improve JIBS impact in the broader society.

QUALIFICATIONS

To be eligible for a position as an assistant professor at JIBS you must have been awarded a doctor’s degree in a, for the position relevant area. You have documented expertise in teaching and research.

A fluency in English is required as teaching is performed primarily in English, language skills in Swedish is an advantage.

The holder of the position must be able to position their present or aspired research objectives within JIBS focus areas and research centres: entrepreneurship, ownership, and/or renewal. Applicants are expected to outline in the cover letter how their research strongly aligns with one or more of these focus areas, as well as how they suggest engaging in one (or more) of the three research centres (i.e. CeFEO, CEnSE, and MMTC)

Redovisningsgruppen på JIBS består för närvarande av tretton aktiva forskare inom revision, företagsstyrning, externredovisning och ekonomistyrning.

Kvalifikationer
Vi söker dig som har gedigen praktisk erfarenhet av externredovisning och revision enligt svenska förutsättningar och regler. Du är väl bevandrad med K2, K3 och IFRS. Du har tidigare erfarenhet av undervisning/utbildning i någon form. Undervisningen sker primärt i vårt Civilekonomprogram och i samarbete med erfarna lärare och forskare.

The accounting group at JIBS currently consists of 13 active researchers within auditing, corporate governance, financial accounting, and management accounting and control.

The group is engaged in projects investigating the interrelation between accounting and ownership as well as accounting and renewal.  Several projects performed within the group include actors from the surrounding society. The group participates actively in national as well as international accounting networks and conferences and publish in reputable academic journals in the area. Research seminars are organized regularly at JIBS with international as well as national researchers.

Working tasks
As a doctoral student, we offer a fully financed full-time position. Most of your time will be devoted to your doctoral studies (80%) which includes coursework and writing a doctoral thesis. The remaining time is allocated for teaching and administrative tasks.

The positions are in the general area of Business Administration, with a focus on digital business. Specifically, we welcome applicants interested in some of the following topics:

- The disruptive effects of digitalization for established firms and industries
- Strategies firms enact to successfully manage digitalization
- The interplay between digitalization, regulation and firm behavior
- How digital data and digital methods can be applied to research concerning these areas

Qualifications
As applicant you need to have passed an exam at advanced level (Master) in Business Administration, or equivalent education, by the time the employment starts. The main language of research and teaching at JIBS is English. You must be fluent in both written and spoken English to be eligible for our doctoral program.

We seek candidates who have a strong drive to conduct high-quality academic scholarship, and an ambition to pursue an international research career and motivation to combine a high level of scholarship with policy-making and/or practical relevance.
