WORK DESCRIPTION
As a Research Assistant you will work on the research project “Digital Occupancy Assessment for Lighting Evaluation” (DOALE).

DOALE is a research project founded by the Svensson Stiftelse and Region Jönköping in a joint venture. Most of the research will be carried out at the department of Construction Engineering and Lighting Science, School of Engineering; additional working periods can be at Region Jönköping.

This research aims to establish a method for DOALE to strengthen evidence-based lighting research supporting value generation for stakeholders. In the Lighting Design education at Jönköping University School of Engineering facilities, a Lighting Living lab will be instrumented for gathering data concerning lighting qualities, such as intensity, color and light distribution. For the digitalization of this Living lab different technologies will be used, e.g. Internet of things, utilizing photometry, 3D scanning and Wifi Positioning Systems.

QUALIFICATION
As applicant you should have the equivalent of a master’s level by the time the employment starts. You need to have fulfilled course requirements of at least 240 credit points (ECTS credits), 60 of which should be at the advanced level. You need to have a strong knowledge about the construction process and Building Information Management. Basics skill in programming is needed. It is positive if you have knowledge of municipal and/or public administration or have previous work experiences in a Swedish company that is active om the digital building sector.

Fluency in English both written and oral, is a requirement. It is a merit if you are fluent in Swedish both written and oral.  We seek candidates who have a strong wish to conduct high-quality academic scholarship, and an ambition to pursue an international or national research career. It is meritorious to have previous experience in teaching or research. It is also a merit if you have a bachelor, master’s thesis or work experience within the project’s subject. You enjoy and are stimulated by working independently with great responsibility as well as in a team.

EMPLOYMENT
Full time (100%), 1 February 2020 or as agreed upon. The employment is limited to 30 August 2020. Salary is regulated in collective agreement

WORK DESCRIPTION
As a doctoral student, we offer a fully financed full-time position. Most of the working time will be devoted to doctoral studies (80%) which includes coursework and writing a doctoral thesis. The remaining 20% is allocated for teaching and administrative tasks.

We are seeking a head of department for operations management with focus on education development and research management!

The department of materials and manufacturing today consists of about 40 researchers and PhD students with background in material science, chemistry, mechanics and physics.

The research is interdisciplinary and includes the whole chain from casting and coating process and material properties to materials science as well as modelling and simulation. There are 4 main research areas that work closely: Al and other light alloys, cast iron, surface technology and simulation and optimization technology. They form a cutting edge research group at Jönköping University and School of Engineering and have a well-equipped experimental lab for both manufacturing processes and materials characterization. Besides their fundamental research requirements, most of our research projects are industrial oriented and involve high-tech industrial partners.

Work description

Qualifications

We are looking for a candidate with a PhD preferably in mechanical engineering, product development or materials engineering. The position of head of department requires proven skills in areas such as management of higher education and research as well as administration of education and research and academic institutional activities. This means that the candidate has the ability to engage, delegate and communicate constructively with people and set strategic work for the department.

Due to the international working environment, a good level of the English language, both written and oral, is expected. Knowledge of the Swedish language on intermediate level, both written and oral, is expected. To thrive in this position, we believe you have substantial skills in mechanical engineering and material science research and education. Previous experience of applied research and external funding is also requested.

The successful candidate is truly interested in educational and managerial activities and eagerly welcomes new challenges, is self-driven, analytical, result-oriented and can conduct teamwork in an international and multicultural environment in a respectful manner. Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) is a discipline that concerns with how humans use and are affected by information technologies, and to create solutions to problems that are both accessible and useful for in everyday life. As technologies are becoming increasingly pervasive and ubiquitous, almost every aspect in modern life involves the interaction with technologies in some way. Hence, this makes HCI a multi- and interdisciplinary field of study that draws on principles from different fields such as computer science, psychology, arts, and many more.

Position
The Department of Computer Science and Informatics provides academic programmes in subjects ranging from New Media Design to IT Infrastructure and AI Engineering, and conducts research in associated areas.

The newly established HCI Lab in the Department of Computer Science and Informatics at Jönköping University is a prioritized environment in which research on human and technologies is conducted in the broadest sense. As an experience is created on different levels related to a technology, the Lab focuses on different interaction-based touch points that creates an experience to the user. This involves research on design aspects (e.g., graphical design) as well as technical aspects (e.g., machine learning, programming), and other aspects within this continuum related to HCI and new media design. To facilitate the research, the lab is equipped with tools that can help to gain deeper user insights (e.g., eye-tracking, EEG) and to create innovative solutions (e.g., VR and AR).

Job Description
The job consists of education and supervision in Bachelor and Master’s programmes as well as conducting research.

Besides the core courses, and depending on the candidate’s background, additional courses could be included, such as Graphic Design, Client-Side Programming or Android Development.

Research will be part of the duties. You are expected to participate in research projects, collaborate with industrial partners and contribute to writing grant applications. We would like to strengthen our research at the intersection of HCI and Artificial Intelligence; we also encourage collaboration with other research groups within Jönköping University that would like to include HCI competences in their research and education.

Since the University is managed as a foundation, we have a very agile culture with the possibility of fast development for people with spirit and ambition.

Qualifications
You should have a Ph.D in relevant area, or comparable scientific competence, and pedagogical merits according to the Appointments Procedure at Jönköping University. The candidate should also have documented skills in teaching in English. Ability to teach in Swedish is of advantage, as is industrial experience from the area. Experience from research projects, especially in cooperation with industry, is of advantage.

The domain-specific requirements include knowledge and real-world implementation skills in one or both of the following areas.

Human-computer/Human-machine interaction, which may include:

- interaction design and front-end development,
- adaptability and personalisation based on user and application models, data analytics and social media analytics,
- visualisation and interpretation of information,
- cognitive science, UX, human factors.

Skills in web programming, which may include:

- HTML5, CSS, JavaScript,
- programming for the client-side, e.g. in JavaScript,
- development tools for the Android and iOS platforms.

It is meritorious if you have

- experience regarding evaluation of user experience,
- programming for the server-side, e.g. in Python, PHP, C#, Java,
- implementation skills in graphic design or motion graphics (Illustrator, Sketch, Adobe XD, Adobe After Effects).

You should be development and quality oriented, responsible and pedagogically skilled. You must be able to adapt your teaching to students with various cultural and thematic background. You should also be a strong team player and still be able to work autonomously and independently. It is advantageous if you perform well in an interdisciplinary environment and have strong critical and analytical skills.
